Constantin Brancusi Exhibit at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in NY

  • The Museum of Modern Art 11 West 53rd Street New York, NY, 10019 United States (map)

The current MoMA exhibition will show 11 sculptures of the Romanian artist together for the first time, alongside drawings, photographs, and films. It also includes a selection of never-before-seen archival materials on the artist’s working process and relationships with friends, sitters, and patrons, including the museum.

'This exhibition celebrates MoMA’s extraordinary holdings—11 sculptures by Brancusi will be shown together for the first time, alongside drawings, photographs, and films. A selection of never-before-seen archival materials shed light on his relationships with friends, sitters, and patrons, including this Museum. What emerges is a rich portrait of an artist whose risk-taking and inventive approach to form changed the course of the art that followed,' writes the museum's exhibit page.

The sculptures presented are presented on MoMA's website here.  Also this year, an exhibition presenting various aspects of the work of Brancusi opened at the Pompidou Center in Málaga, in southern Spain.

The exhibit was organised by Paulina Pobocha, Associate Curator, with Mia Matthias, Curatorial Fellow, Department of Painting and Sculpture. Brancusi collected records with music of many kinds. MoMA's website features a playlist, created by the two curators with selections from his extensive collection.

Brancusi (1876-1957) is considered a pioneer of modernism and one of the most influential sculptors of the 20th century, called the patriarch of modern sculpture.
